Have some women been disadvantaged by the widespread legalisation of abortion in Australia? This book contains stories of a dozen women who regret their abortions. Sometimes they were pressured into abortion, by their doctor, their mother, or by the child's father. They describe in their own words the traumatic effect this had on their subsequent lives. In many cases they were disadvantaged women who had no choice at all, and who feel they have been let down by the "rhetoric of choice".
Editor Reist in her introduction and afterword looks at the various issues involved, including the surprising incidence of pressure, and the poor quality of counselling most women receive from professionals before an abortion.
