Gijs van Lith was born in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, in 1984 and graduated from the Academy of Art and Design in 's-Hertogenbosch in 2008. He demonstrates his youthful passion for painting under the motto 'Less talk, more action'. This same passion can be found in his monumental works. The observer is caught off guard by an enormous profusion of paint, colour, technique and action in which the energy of the painter and his creative process are almost tangible. Lith arouses associations in his work only to later deny them, thereby forcing the observer to look more deeply. This subsequently causes the onlooker to seek out the confrontation with his or her own perception. The starting point is usually "What do I see, and what do I think I see?"
