Explore over 18 beloved ghost towns in New Jersey through over 200 black and white and colour photographs, historic vignettes, and touring information. These are some of the oldest and best-preserved ghost towns in America, from the Revolutionary Ironworks of Long Pond to the forgotten village of Chestnut Neck. Stop by Walpack Center, the loneliest and most remote town nestled in the corner of Northwest New Jersey. Visit Allaire Village, a wonderful excursion for the family with living history and live-steam train rides. See Whitesbog, a still-active Cranberry operation with a great general store. Discover the past and what led to the rise, fall, and preservation of these historic places. Packed with historic photographs, maps, and well-researched text, this is a tour you will want to take time and time again. Towns include Atsion, Batsto, Pleasant Mills, Feltville, Smithville, Double Trouble, Waterloo, Sandy Hook, Phalanx, Greenwich Landing, and more. AUTHOR: New Jersey historian, photographer, and writer Timothy Regan is a lifelong resident of Monmouth County where he has been immersed in the history of New Jersey for as long as has can remember. His love of those Jersey ghost towns began with his family's weekend trips to places like the Deserted Village of Allaire. In the decades that followed, Regan has travelled the state and published ten books on New Jersey history and contributed to the preservation and protection of Fort Hancock. He is the founder and past director of the Keyport Fire Museum. As the Sandy Hook fire chief, he became the last permanent resident to leave Sandy Hook, while evacuating for Hurricane Sandy. Regan resides in Hazlet with his wife, Patti, and daughter Elizabeth. 206 b/w and colour photos
