Fifteen-year-old Carlos Amoroso is desperate to lose his virginity, but he cant' seem to carry on a conversation with Roxy, the girl of his dreams. After watching a TV show where a clueless straight guy is made over by savvy gay men, Carlo hatches a plan--he decides to ask his classmate Sal for help getting Roxy to like him. In exchange for his help, Sal wants Carlos' support starting a gay-straight alliance at their school, even though Carlos is embarrassed to be seen with Sal, whom everyone makes fun of for being gay.
When Carlos' friends find out who he's been ditching them for, Carlos has to face up to the fact that over the course of their makeover, he and Sal have become good friends. On top of that, things with Roxy don't turn out the way Carlos expected. With Sal's help, Carlos learns to relinquish his stereotypes and judgements and become more accepting of other people--and himself. And he realises that what he really wants is a girlfriend and not a hook-up.
