Is Nick Allen a troublemaker? He just likes to liven things up at Lincoln Elementary - and he's always had plenty of ideas.
In third grade, he turned Miss Deaver's class into a tropical island. In fourth grade, he fooled Miss Avery by chirping like a bird. But now, he's in Mrs Granger's fifth grade language arts class and, as everyone at Lincoln Elementary knows, you don't mess around with the Lone Granger.
After doing an oral report about the dictionary, Nick comes up with his most brilliant idea yet . . . the frindle. Who says a pen has to be called a pen? Why not call it a frindle?
First, Nick's friends all use the word. Then other people in town begin using frindle. Soon the school is in an uproar, and Nick has become a local hero. But when frindle starts to spread across the country, Nick suddenly realises there's no way he can stop it.
