More than four centuries ago, the small Republic of the United Netherlands started an economic march and made contacts in all corners of the world. Many of those ancient relationships have left their traces. A part of these traces have been preserved: in museums and archives, in the open field or in the city, in stories and in images. The publication of Footsteps and Fingerprints: The legacy of a shared history gives an impression of the legacy obtained by contacts between Brazil, Ghana, India, Indonesia, The Netherlands, Russia, Sri Lanka, Suriname and South-Africa during the past 400 years. Several 'highlights' of the Common Cultural Heritage will be shown: from the station of Tandjung Priuk in Jakarta, the Dutch church in Sint-Petersburg to the 'Avondster' in Sri Lanka. 100 colour illustrations
