This book is aimed at folk artists with a reasonable level of proficiency, but still includes information on basic techniques and a detailed step by step analysis of a rose. This collection of designs reflects influences from many sources and styles, including the Mediaeval and Renaissance periods and early German and American work.
The 15 projects include an unusual octagonal box painted with a basket of flowers, with a floral swag on the side held up by flower fairies; a powder bowl, a whimsical marbled toilet seat, a dancing teddies lampshade to delight any small girl, a fruit bowl on the country naive style, a wooden medicine cupboard, a wonderfully decorative coffee pot and a small chest painted in the Pennsylvania Dutch style, using traditional motifs of birds, mermaids, urn, star and angel, tulip, red rose and heart. Other items include, most unusually, a round papier-mache box painted with an angel and an oval wooden box with a design of three angels adapted from a Renaissance fresco.
