London in high summer, the temperature soaring into the 90s. A man tumbles to his death on a building site. Was he just careless? Or is there a more sinister explanation?
Karen McDade is one of the witnesses. She's making a film about the demolition of the Angel Point tower block. Already she's found the perfect focus: the body of Ted O'Hagan, aged eighty-four, was discovered on the eleventh floor, his veins clogged with alcohol. An everyday tragedy? The postmortem suggests otherwise. And Karen can't help wondering: are these two suspicious deaths connected?
Karen's about to step on some very sensitive toes. Always reckless, and distracted by an electric physical attraction, she's headed for trouble . . . and she might be on her own when the axe falls.
