The Troubled Artist.
"I am sure he will be understood later on." So wrote Theo, Vincent van Gogh's beloved brother.
Vincent's art was not appreciated during his lifetime. His life was tragic - he failed in love, was unsure what to do with his life, he fell out with friends and fellow painters, and died by his own hand.
And yet during his short and troubled life (1853 to 1950), he painted hundreds of vibrant paintings that are now recognised as masterpieces. The well-known 'Irises' and 'Sunflowers' are the works of a true genius.
