The $300+ million losses from rogue foreign exchange trading made by The Melbourne trading desk of the National Australia Bank, was a high-profile scandal, swiftly followed by the resignation of CEO and Chairman. Fake is the story of one of the four rogue traders, 32 year old, David Bullen. Spanning his four year career with the Bank, the book takes the reader into his trading world, where players worked hard and partied harder. The sums of money controlled were phenomenal, and the arrogant attitude displayed at work and at play makes fascinating reading. Against a backdrop of the multi-million dollar trading frenzy, David tells his personal story. He details his early days as a heavy drinking and smoking self-confessed hedonist, enjoying the lavish perks of corporate life. To his move towards the drug enhanced dance-party scene and finally to his interest in Buddhism and subsequent practice in the Way. Bullen is a complex character, he often seems to be a mass of contradictions, but nevertheless he provides a very readable frank account of his Life as a Rogue Trader. “Fake” is the authors view of the person he was during this time.
