This text directory of over 10,000 public toilets around Australia is based on data gathered for a federal government initiative called the National Public Toilet Map. While the data is freely available online, Explore Australia is the first company to publish a handy printed guidebook that ’s ideal for travellers who do not have access to the internet. The data has also been thoroughly checked by Explore Australia’s expert cartographers.
With a compact format that will fit in a glovebox, the directory is organised by state and then alphabetically by town name. Each listing includes the location name (e.g. service station, park or reserve, shopping centre, etc.), address, open hours, and the availability of sanitary disposal units, sharps disposal units, baby change tables, showers and drinking water taps.
Why didn’t we include any maps? There are simply too many toilets for the data to be economically ‘mappable’ in print! But by supplying the address, keeping a copy of this directory in your vehicle will ensure that you never get caught out while on the road again.
