George has a chequered career. Too bright for any school or job that his Victorian lower-middle class upbringing can offer, he throws in his lot with his uncle - failed pharmacist and successful inventor of an utterly valueless patent medicine. But when "Tono-Bungay" sells like hot cakes and the money begins to pour in, George finds he really can build his aeroplane, while Uncle Teddy buys and builds his dream houses and climbs the social ladder.
