After his first attempts at entertaining while in the army in Germany, after his initial failure as Gerry Dorsey, he found a manager who insisted he change his name, giving him a second shot at fame and finally his breakthrough via an appearance on TV's Sunday Night At The London Palladium. Soon, he was working alongside the greats - from The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix, to Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr.
With the trappings of success came greater temptations and Engelbert is honest about how his worldwide career led him into infidelity and a close relationship with the brandy bottle. Happily in recent years he has enjoyed a huge renaissance, criss-crossing the globe entertaining his millions of fans.
