Two Civilizations One Destiny...
Southern Anatolia, 253 AD.
The town of Edessa, a Roman outpost, is on its last legs, besieged by the Persian troops of Shapur I. Roman emperor Licinius Valerianus receives a proposal from his adversary: he is willing to meet and draw up a peace treaty. Valerianus agrees and falls into his trap. His guard – commanded by Marcus Metellus Aquila, a living legend – defend the emperor with desperate valour, but Valerianus is captured and forced to kneel before Shapur. The surviving guards are taken prisoner as well: twelve men in all.
After 18 months of hard labour and death, including that of the emperor, the remaining men escape, and after narrowly escaping capture on several occasions, fall into the service of Dan Qing, a deposed Chinese prince. They return to China and help Qing regain his throne. But there are still traitors in their midst...
