Early Radio
This is the fascinating story of the manner in which simple means were bent to extraordinary ends. The book tells of the technology that Marconi was to put to use, and is based on written records of the time and the replication of some of the more significant devices. The material for this book has been obtained through extensive research both in the United Kingdom and elsewhere overseas. Many of the illustrations and photographs have not previously been published.
By describing some of the more important places in which Marconi's work was undertaken, Peter Rolf Jensen gives a realistic impression not only of what was achieved, but also of the surroundings in which the events took place. In the latter part of the book, he describes in detail a series of construction projects in which the most important early radio artefacts are recreated using modern techniques and materials. These descriptions are accompanied by detailed diagrams and an explanation of the scientific basis of the underlying technology.
The extensive appendixes include extracts from a variety of rare and highly significant early documents concerning the development of radio.
