Part of the Doctor Who series.
When a outpost in space begins to break up, with the "Tardis" crew aboard, escape is only possible in tiny life-capsules. Fitz is bundled unconscious into one, while the Doctor and Compassion take another.
Steering the capsule back to its planet of origin to try and get help, the Doctor finds a hostile welcome awaits. Skale is a xenophobic world caught up in a desperate space-race, its warring countries all competing to be first among the stars. The arrival of the "Tardis" aboard the outpost has jeopardised the plans of Parallel 59 - one of the largest power blocs on Skale - to establish a presence in space that is key to their dreams of interstellar travel. If the damage can't be undone, thousands of people will die.
Fitz's capsule takes him to the apparent safety of the colony of Mechta. He is accepted into a community, assumes a new life, and finds he's never been happier. After a while he realises he doesn't even want to be rescued - which is a good thing. Because the Doctor isn't coming to get him.
