The Tardis has landed on a moon of Akoshemon. Once a byword for unimaginable depravity, the planet is long-dead, its inhabitants the victims of their own spiralling evil. However, as the Doctor arrives, so does a renegade interstellar mining crew, and their investigations turn up a lot more than the valuable minerals they were hoping for.
This moon was used for something terrible a long time ago. Traces of dark experiments are unearthed, and when the miners start to die, to be found as dry husks, their bodies stripped of every last ounce of fluid, the Doctor knows that what they have uncovered may have been sleeping, but it was a long way from dead.
And now, down in the dark, it's waking up. And it's hungry . . .
