Katerina arrives from Cyprus as a 6 year old in the 50s, to meet her father who has travelled ahead. On arrival her mother abandons her and Katerina is left to face a strange land with her depressed and taciturn father. The book follows Katerina's personal journey to adulthood, motherhood and plots her professional life as an advocate.
