A Novel of Suspense.
Lacey Quinn is a talented landscape artist who makes her living as an art buyer. She has a really good eye, especially for Art Nouveau/Deco, and for artists like herself, nameless talents who never got lucky enough to be famous.
Her grandfather was such an artist. He was part of the California impressionist movement in the 1920s, often called "plein air" landscapists. On his death Lacey inherits hundreds of his paintings. And, as it happens, the art from this movement has become the new hotly collected work by wealthy patrons weary of last century's modernism.
When Lacey starts pursuing the personal history of her recently dead artist-grandfather, a person or persons unknown start pursuing her. The hunters know what Lacey doesn't: her grandfather's paintings are a voice from the grave, crying murder.
The Rarities Unlimited business joins the search into a past that gets darker with each gravestone. Ian Lapstrake, a Rarities operative, becomes Lacey's shadow whether she likes it or not. He doesn't like the look of her grandfather's paintings - and he doesn't want her to be the next one to die in plain sight.
