It’s been a tough year for Charli Trenthenan: her mother died in a tragic car accident and she’s been shunned by locals in Stone Lake who believe she is to blame for a recent fire. She keeps to herself, mostly, completing bookbinding projects and dreaming of the day she can leave this town.
When taking a walk in the nearby forest, Charli discovers a dead baby under the ice, near the grounds of The Sanctuary, a powerful international religious movement that champions the benefits of slow living and runs a drug rehabilitation program.
Charli informs the police of her discovery, but instead of helping to solve the crime she soon finds herself a suspect in the baby’s murder.
