Actress Gayle Hunnicutt was born in Texas in February 1943. Her father, Lloyd, was serving with one of the last cavalry regiments in the US army in the South Pacific and didn't see his only child until she was eighteen months old. During that time he fought boredom, loneliness, mosquitoes and - very occasionally - the Japanese. He also wrote over 600 letters home to his adored wife, Virginia.
These letters, lovingly preserved, are the basis of 'Dearest Virginia'. They are not a war memoir in the conventional sense. Instead, they are a love story - a day-to-day account of the enduring passion of a man for his wife, the frustrations of their separation and the plans for a future in a saner but unknown world.
Sixty years later, in a world where loved ones are still separated by demoralizing wars, Lloyd and Virginia's tender memoir will touch the hearts of every generation.
