When Pulitzer-prize-winning photojournalist Jordan Glass chances upon a portrait of an unknown artist in a Hong Kong museum, she is stunned speechless. The face of the woman in the painting is that of Jordan's identical twin sister, who vanished without trace from New Orleans thirteen months before.
The painting is part of a series entitled 'Sleeping Women'. As Jordan studies the other portraits in the exhibition, she realises to her horror that they depict eleven women who disappeared in New Orleans over the past eighteen months.
Teaming up with forensic psychologist Dr Arthur Lenz and FBI special agent John Kaiser to learn the identity of the artist behind the paintings, Jordan finds that the FBI is not including her out of kindness. Her identical appearance to one of the victims makes her a potent weapon against the Bureau's prime suspects.
But the FBI's use of Jordan places her directly in the killer's sights. What Jordan cannot know is that the murder's trail doubles back into her own past, exposing secrets that she must confront in a final, shocking showdown.
