No. 35, The Hill, the home of Terry and Lucy Payne is about to become infamous.
PCs Janet Taylor and Dennis Morrisey went there to simply sort out an alleged domestic dispute. What they find leaves Lucy Payne injured, Dennis Morrisey dead and Janet Taylor fighting off a murderous attack from Terry Payne. And in the corner of the basement lies the body of missing teenager Kimberley Myers.
Acting Superintendent Alan Banks is immediately called to the scene, for he has been leading the hunt for the serial killer, dubbed The Chameleon who has been abducting young women. A further search of the house reveals the bodies of the other missing girls. Terry Payne - a young attractive teacher at the local comprehensive school was, it seems, The Chameleon.
But this is only the beginning of an investigation that will test everyone to the limit - for Terry has died in hospital, and Janet has been charged with his murder. And what of Lucy Payne - is she the innocent abused wife, as claimed? Or was she his evil accomplice?
