One morning when she was six years old, Patricia Hughes awoke to a silent, empty home. That afternoon, a police car delivered her to a Catholic orphanage called Nazareth House. She would never see her home - or her mother - again.
Throughout years of harsh discipline from the nuns at Nazareth and abuse at the hands of foster parents, Patricia never stopped longing for the mother who had abandoned her and for the father whose occasional visits ceased mysteriously when she was a teenager. But once she grew up and made a life for herself in her native Brisbane, she was determined to leave the past behind her.
However, one day in 1997, Patricia received a telephone call from a woman who was a complete stranger to her - and the younger sister she'd never known. But, unbeknownst to them both, finding each other would only be the beginning of their extraordinary discoveries and of a remarkable story of optimism triumphing over adversity.
