Aaron Fletcher is an international art thief wannabe, who needed to set up his step-brother, Eric Mackay, to produce forgeries. So he faked the suicides of two old farmers in Queensland to get their secluded properties on the shores of Lake Wivenhoe.
Jayson Locklin-Macleod is the suspicious son of one of the murdered farmers. He's a young Australian solider who has just returned from a covert mission in Timor and uses his military training to secure justice for his father. On his side are his sister, young cousin, a priest and his fathers old foreman. But as each of them fall victim to Aaron Fletcher, he is forced to trust Nikki, who has been manipulated into moving to Wivenhoe by Fletcher, until he can ensure the Dumakis fortune will be his.
The crystal coffin is a jewellery box, a gift for Nikki from her mother, which contained a necklace and earrings with charms of angels for each family member that died when she was young. The coffin sat inside a crystal church, whose spire became the murder weapon that Nikki was framed with. The remaining pieces of the set are the clues that bring the story together and prove Nikki's innocence in the end.
