An uneasy truce between the Scots and English is sorely tested following the crowning of James VI of Scotland as King of England. Determined to end centuries of bloodshed, James orders marriages between influential families from each of his two realms. For Clementina Grey this means a new life in the wilds of Scotland as the wife of a proud and resentful highland chieftain, Jamie Cameron.
Clementina soon discovers that the Cameron clan resents her presence almost as much as their chieftain does. But she is determined not to be cowed by her formidable new husband. Despite herself, she becomes increasingly attracted to him. But after a series of 'accidents', Clementina begins to fear for her safety. Everyone has good reason to wish her gone, including her husband. Her fight for acceptance soon becomes a fight for her life.
