Visitors to the Big Apple are increasingly eager to explore areas lying outside of the city and need the best travel advice possible--something that no other guidebook offers. City Weekends is divided into two parts: Weekends inside NYC (the five boroughs) and weekends outside the city. Each chapter will be about a different weekend, centered around a theme ("Russian weekend in Manhattan" for example) or a particular destination(the Dia Beacon and Storm King), with activities, recommended itineraries, and places to eat, shop and stay overnight at. All destinations are within three hours of the city, and for many (particularly the ones inside NYC), the author provides options for both day trips and weekends trips. While most of the destinations will be accessible by walking or public transport, there will also be some that are best done with a car. Tentative activities include: a wine-focused weekend on the North Fork of Long Island; riding in a hot air balloon in upstate New York; spending the weekend at an ashram; camping and hiking in Westchester; beaches and surfing; easy ski weekends; and a beautiful Bronx weekend at Wave Hill and City Island. City Weekends will also feature sidebars on area hotels and inns; kid-friendly destinations; renting cars; and festivals, fairs and other seasonal activities. The weekend guide for New Yorkers and tourists alike that offers over 100 local "getaways," featuring destinations within the five boroughs as well as places within 3 hours of the city (including CT, upstate NY, Long Island, and Westchester).
