Since her first series of photographs taken in 1977, "Untitled Film Series", Cindy Sherman has built a name as one of the most respected photographers of the late twentieth century. Famous for posing as the subject of her own photos, Sherman's work is provocative and engaging, addressing important contemporary issues including the role of the artist, the impact of the media upon the art world and the position of women in society. Sherman is a key player in contemporary photography and was featured in Marc Jacob's recent publicity campaign, photographed by Jurgen Teller. Organized thematically, Cindy Sherman provides a comprehensive review of the artist's complete works, including series such as her famous "Film Stills", "History Portraits", "Sex Pictures", "Centrefolds" and the recent "Clowns and Self Portraits" series. The publication of this book coincides with several exhibitions of Sherman's work in 2006 and 2007 at the Jeu de Paume, Paris, France; Kunthaus, Bregenz, Austria; Louisiana Museum for Moderne Kunst, Humblebaek, Denmark; and Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin, Germany.
