Parla's painterly meditation on life and death in the wake of his perilous Covid encounter
'Ciclos: Blooms of Mold' was installed in the grand and iconic Beaux-Arts Court at the Brooklyn Museum as part of Brooklyn 'Abstraction: Four Artists, Four Walls', which opened on August 2022.
These immersive, monumental paintings were the first works José Parlá created since his recovery from a life-threatening battle against Covid-19. They invite a meditation on creation and decay, life and death, the deeply intimate and expansively universal. Here we encounter an indestructible spirit.
