Christo (1935â€"2020) and Jeanne-Claude's (1935â€"2009) landscape-scaled, outdoor projects were astounding temporary works of art in public settings that captured headlines across the globe. This career survey centers on their most famous installation, The Gates in Central Park, New York City. This expanded edition celebrates the twentieth anniversary of The Gates with photographs of the completed installation alongside images of Christo's preparatory drawings. It also includes a new epilogue that considers the artists' final works and a 2017 interview with Christo, one of the artist's last.
This new edition is published on the occasion of an anniversary exhibition of the complete Gates documentation, curated by the artists themselves, opening February 12, 2025, in New York.
