The heartwarming semi-autobiographical story of how a small boy comes to understand the true meaning of Christmas. A young boy and his mother spend Christmas 1943 with relatives in snowy Northern Minnesota, while the boy's father fights in the war in Europe. It is to be the last Christmas the boy will ever spend with his young cousin, Matthew who is dying. Neither of the boys believes in Santa Claus anymore - until Matthews's father miraculously restores their faith in the wondrous possibilities of Christmas.
