E.F. Benson is best known for his Mapp & Lucia books and his ghost stories, the latter of which are thought to represent some of the best of his writing. Like Charles Dickens, who also published many ghost stories in his lifetime, he is able to create a superbly eerie atmosphere amongst familiar landscapes and everyday lives.
