Meet two couples, friends and neighbours in Dorset for years . . .
Connie and Julian are wealthy, sophisticated and in control, and yet bored by their lives. Lucy and Mark are financially unstable and chaotic, but lead loving lives. Both couples appear to have it all - the secure marriage, the nice house, and a quiverful of children . . . But increasingly Lucy and Connie find that having it all leaves them with very little.
In a moment of pure impulse the two couples decide to buy a London flat together, a luxury that promises different things for each of them - but most of all, a bolt-hole from domesticity . . .
Cautious Lucy is the hardest to persuade, but when she does finally throw caution to the wind, she has no notion what the winds will throw back at her . . .
