'Changi Photographer' was first published in 1984 and is the result of Tim Bowden meeting George Aspinall during research for the POW radio series which surveys the experiences of Australian prisoners-of-war of the Japanese.
George Aspinall was nicknamed "Changi" Aspinall by his mates in the 2/30th Battalion, because at lights-out time in Birdwood Camp, he was invariably "down at Changi Village" helping to process photographs he and his friends had taken of their new and exotic tropical surroundings.
This book not only tells George's remarkable personal story, but documents for the first time the full collection of surviving photographs he took under extraordinarily difficult circumstances in captivity.
