Of the thousands of horses that have thrilled spectators over the years, some have reached legendary status, and their names and deeds are recalled with admiration by aficionados of the sport of kings.
'Century Of Champions' pays tribute to 100 of the greatest horses bred, trained and raced in Australia and New Zealand. A selection of the 100 best will always be subject to discussion, but few could disagree with the inclusion of Phar Lap, Wakeful, Gloaming, Might and Power, Desert Gold, Ajax and Bonecrusher. Of the hundred, only 25 have been selected from the pre-1950 years and none from pre-1900.
The horses featured in the book are presented in chronological order of their first major win. A 500-word essay on their career is accompanied by information on their dam and sire, plus a summary of their major wins, trainers and total prize money won.
Each horse has a double-page spread, with a glorious black-and-white or colour photograph showing them at their racing best.
