Escaping Los Angeles and the ugly memories of her son's recent murder, Maudie Toola returns to her childhood home of Molena Point, bringing her orphaned grandson, whom she must now raise. She's not looking forward to the holidays but must make them positive for the child. Also, she's unaware the killer has followed her, nor does she know that the small seaside village is dealing with a series of brutal crimes.
Meanwhile, there's a new tomcat on the scene: a prison cat who bears an important message from a state prisoner for the local police. Joe Grey and his feline pals soon find that he has a personal agenda, though, and that Maudie is harboring her own secret about her son's killer. It is the lonely prison cat who provides the link between the mysteries-and in turn, Joe Grey and his friends help him find a warm and loving home just in time for Christmas.
