California Cool: Art in Los Angeles, 1960s-70s draws on the National Gallery of Australia’s rich collection of international prints, artist’s books and photographs to tell the story of the cultural boom experienced in Southern California during the 1960s and 1970s. This publication provides an account of this exciting period in the booming post-war Californian social and cultural landscape. Artists including Wallace Berman, Ed Ruscha, John Baldessari, Ed Kienholz and Vija Celmins were staking out a place for LA as an artistic centre that had as much to offer international culture as whatever was happening at the time in New York or London.
