Caillou (a French-Canadian name, pronounced ky-you) is a young inquisitive preschool boy whose experiences of preschool and home life are communicated delightfully in bright and bold colour in this simple storybook for preschoolers.
Caillou goes camping in the backyard with Grandpa. Grandpa realises Caillou is uncertain about how to put up the tent, and shows him how to do it. It's a difficult task but they enjoy it, even when the tent falls down on them! Caillou delights in toasting marshmallows over a small fire, and at bedtime is fascinated by the stars and the fireflies in the night sky. When Caillou is afraid of the night sounds, Grandpa has a great idea to make Caillou feel better!
With simple, bright illustrations, this story sensitively portrays a child's uncertainties and fears of a new experience, and how a child's interactions with grown-ups can help children become more confident in what they do.
