Cabin Fever is the sequel of sorts to My Father's Moon, and reintroduces us to Vera, many years later, holed up in a hotel room in New York. Vera begins to reflect on her life, and in doing so, mourns the loss of love and friendship from her life: from the father of her child, who was killed during World War II, to her relationship with a nurse at the military hospital where she completed her training as a nurse. Various other important figures in her life appear in the book, both friends and lovers. Vera considers her childhood and her own daughter's childhood while reliving much of the sorrow of her life through memories.
