Originally published in 1934, Buffaloes is a memoir of the exploits of two ex-Galipoli veterans who, unable to return to an ordinary life at home, journeyed north to produce buffalo hides from the wetlands and plains of what is now Kakadu National Park.
Buffaloes: Adventures In Arnhem Land, by Carl Warburton
If you like adventure and have an interest in the bush, pioneering or aboriginal life, this is a marvelous yarn filled with striking experiences and observations. The author's story is densely told with the wonderful optimism of a pioneer, an eye for humor and humanity. If you're into prose with flourish I suggest you look elsewhere, but I for one couldn't put this honest read down.
