The sequel to BONAPARTE'S SONS (Little, Brown Aug 1997). Lausard and his men are chosen as one of the units to join The Army of the Orient which is to invade Egypt. On their way they land at Malta and capture the island after a fierce battle. The French reach Egypt, hotly pursued by Nelson and his British fleet and Lausard and his men are told to cross the desert - a 72-hour march - to secure positions on the banks of the Nile. Hot, tired and battle-weary Lausard and a few of his men get separated and both sections of the unit are in danger from being attacked by hordes of Bedouins. Support arrives and they live to face the real enemies, the Marmelukes, at the Battle of the Pyramids. The French win and they can return home to France as Napoleon is worried about the promise of attack from the Austrians
