Adele Western knows what it's like to be an outsider. As a teenager she was tested mercilessly about the size of her lips by the sixth-form 'girlie mafia', and her only friend was an ultra-camp Chinese boy whose knowledge of make-up was far superior to her own. Now twenty-six, we follow the ups and downs of her life and loves.

There's cultured restaurateur Paul, whose relationship with the working-class leuan raises eyebrows, not least because Paul still seems to be having a sexual relationship with his ex-wife and step-sister. There's former chart-topper Suki, whose career nose dived once she had children and is now venturing on a lesbian affair with the enigmatic Karina. And there's Adele herself, who is trying to make a career as a cook, but whose life keeps folding back on itself in a series of bizarre coincidences. Underlying everyone's story is a tale of ambiguous sexuality, where no one is sure exactly what flavour they want their sauce!
