Illustrated by the author's daughter Rebecca Cundy - a highly successful graphic artist - with very cute line illustrations.
7.45am Saturday 1st of December: My mother tells me that at three minutes to four o'clock this afternoon; I will have lived in this world for EXACTLY eleven years.
"Oh, my goodness, you were such a cute baby," she sighs, then reaches out a hand and ruffles my hair, "I wonder what went wrong."
Statement of fact: I DO NOT LIKE MY NAME.
I did not choose my time of arrival on this earth, but unfortunately (for me) I turned out to be the first-born male child of my generation. The original Oswald Devon Kingsford was my great-great-great-great grandfather. He was a famous explorer. During the course of his exploits, he kept a journal. After sailing in ships, trekking across deserts, climbing great mountains, and discovering lost tribes - he dropped down dead deep in the Amazon jungle, but not until he wrote this final entry in his journal: 'I beg thee. Do not let my name die with me - my last request is that the first born male child of each generation shall carry my name into the future.'.........
Guaranteed to have both children and adults chuckling, this junior fiction title is aimed at nine to 12 year olds. It's funny and clever and well-paced.
