The medieval bestiary, or 'book of beasts' was a compendium of beasts and used the images as an allegorical teaching and a description of the world as it was known. Dominique Lauge, fascinated by this concept, decided to create through his photographic shots a contemporary bestiary able to revive shocking, almost unreal, and fantastic atmosphere of the old bestiaries. Animals, selected primarily for their shape, are portrayed in their zoo cages and fences, which become a part of the image of the animal.
