This year, Design Vlaanderen organises the fifth Triennial for Design, a prestigious exhibition in the Royal Museums of Art and History in Brussels. The Triennial wants to put Flemish design into the spotlight by means of a central theme. This edition's theme is beauty. This book, based on the exhibition in the Royal Museum, contains a number of articles on beauty and gives an overview of all participating designers. Beauty is investigated by means of chairs and dishes, starting with an archetype of these objects, and ending with very lavishly elaborated or a typical chairs or dishes. This selection is completed with a number of other objects. In this way, the unity and the heterogeneity of beauty is displayed. Furthermore, contemporary design is confronted with historical art pieces, carefully chosen by Belgian designers.
