CHARLES J. ESDAILEA frequent visitor to Spain and Portugal who has specialized in the history of the Peninsular War for his entire career, Charles Esdaile has visited most of the battlefields and other sites associated with that conflict. AUTHOR: Born in Epsom, Surrey, in 1959, Charles Esdaile was for many years a member of staff at the University of Liverpool in the course of which time he published numerous books and articles on the Napoleonic period in general and the Peninsular War in particular.
