Most country towns are warped on some way and Bantam is no different. Punctuated by dogs and chooks and the daily tragicomedy of small town life, Bantam follows a year in Mick's life as he leaves home and runs into the joys and sorrows of first love.
Mick and his mates court disaster constantly as they and their girlfriends struggle to hold on in the roller-coaster ride of adolescent life on the dole. Their despairs are many, their comradeship life-saving, and the occasional epiphanies are small graces that stud the novel like jewels.
Fiction ideal for young adults.
