The first edition of Ballengers book was published in 1908 and has since been translated into 10 languages. The 18th edition continues the tradition of presenting a complex reference text of current knowledge in otorhinolaryngology for the 21st century. The 18th edition comprises 114 chapters organised into six sections, each edited by a leader in its discipline.
The sections are topically arranged to address otology/neurotology, rhinology, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, pediatric otorhinolaryngology, laryngology and bronchoesophagology, and head and neck surgery. The presentation of basic science underlying clinical otorhinolaryngology has been expanded and molecular mechanisms and genetics of disease are presented. Disorders of smell, taste, balance and hearing, voice, speech, and lagnuage are also emphasised to provide comprehensive coverage of the discipline.
