David Hirst, a journalist and acclaimed documentary maker moved to Los Angeles in 1983. On the first day of the new millennium he moved to the spectacular high desert of Southern California to take advantage of the housing boom. But in late 2004 a car accident forced a major life change. While fighting for his life in the Frank Sinatra Ward of Palm Springs Hospital, Hirst-with the help of a laptop-began to look carefully at where the US economy was going. He knew he was living in a world where consumption and development was massively unsustainable but it took six months on his back recuperating to properly research the reality behind the greatest boom of all time. After dying three times he was released, but now sure of an impending economic collapse sold his home in the high desert and returned to Australia convinced the world was facing a financial blow out that would cause a second Great Depression. Bad Moon Rising is the story of one man's experience of the great global calamity that has swept away economic certainty and left the world at the brink of an abyss that Hirst outlines can be breached, but only if people force their governments to act now and control Wall Street and the financial system.
