The People and Their Stories
In 1999, Steve and Robyn Holland set out with their two young children, in a Holden Commodore with a caravan, on a twelve-month journey around Australia. Their aim? To capture the spirit of Australians at the turn of the century. Robyn has interviewed a wide cross-section of people from all over the nation, whose individual perspectives and life experiences make for fascinating reading. All stories are accompanied by husband Steve's stunning photographs.
There are 70 people featured in the book, of a variety of ethnic backgrounds. There are old people and young people, men and women, rich and poor, from the outback to the city. Starting at the gold Coast, the Hollands began their 50,000 km odyssey by travelling south to Tasmania, then up to Victoria, to South Australia, through the centre to Darwin, across to Western Australia, then down and back through South Australia and New South Wales.
